鈥淭he Art Education program at 含羞草传媒 University has truly prepared me to lead K-12 classrooms. It equipped me with the skills to teach a variety of art forms, including drawing, printmaking, painting, ceramics and sculpture. The program also played a vital role in preparing me for my art teacher certification. Beyond strengthening my artistic abilities, I was given opportunities to explore the different aspects of an art classroom and develop my teaching practice. However, the most rewarding gift this program has given me is the community of creative minds who have supported me every step of the way. The professors at 含羞草传媒 University genuinely care about their students and are deeply committed to helping us succeed!鈥

In other words, you'll learn to teach art by doing it yourself with others.
How does this concentration differ from a bachelor's degree in art education?
TROY's program is a bachelor's degree in art education delivered as a concentration within the broader B.S. in education, which means you graduate with both deep studio preparation and comprehensive teacher training. Unlike standalone art degrees, this art education degree integrates pedagogy from day one, pairing hands-on studio work with field experiences in P鈥12 classrooms. You're not choosing between being an artist or an educator; you're intentionally prepared to be both, with a direct path to Alabama teacher certification.

Why is art education important?
Art is part of the human experience. Visual arts education strengthens empathy, critical thinking, problem-solving and creative confidence while giving students a powerful outlet for self-expression. Through a TROY art education degree, you'll learn how to help students analyze famous works, experiment boldly with new media and reflect thoughtfully on their own creations. As an art education major, you'll teach artistic techniques while cultivating imagination, resilience and cultural awareness that students carry for life.
What degree do you need to be an art teacher in Alabama?
To teach art in Alabama public schools, you must earn a bachelor's degree that leads to state licensure and meet Alabama State Department of Education certification requirements. TROY's art education degree is designed specifically for this pathway, culminating in eligibility for Class B certification in Art Education (Grades P鈥12). Through supervised internships, student teaching and faculty-guided preparation for required exams, your degree becomes your direct route to becoming a certified art teacher in Alabama.
